Social Security and retirement benefits should not be paperwork.
Social Security, pensions, employer plans, IRAs, annuities, and other benefits move on different timelines and follow different rules. The research alone can take hours, never mind the calls.
A family needs a complete map before notifications and benefit decisions scatter across agencies and administrators. From proof of death to beneficiaries, the details matter. A lot.
BUILD THE BENEFIT MAP
• Social Security and, when relevant, Veterans or public-employee benefits. Death certificates, DD214, birth certificates and marriage certificates will be vital.
• Current and former employer pensions, 401(k), 403(b), deferred-compensation, and retiree benefits all require hours of research.
• IRAs, annuities, survivor benefits, insurance-linked benefits, and required-payment records need to be gathers and logged.
• Plan contacts, statements, beneficiary information, open claims, communications and known deadlines need to be tracked.
SEPARATE NOTIFICATION FROM DECISION
Reporting a change, establishing authority, and choosing a distribution or survivor option are not the same task. Confirm requirements and choices with each agency or plan administrator and the family’s legal, tax, and financial advisers before acting.
HOW WE HELP
We create the benefit inventory, question list, document packet, call log, and follow-up tracker; coordinate and audit appointments; and keep unresolved items visible. We do not select benefits, recommend distributions, transact on accounts, or provide legal, tax, or financial advice, but we can keep your requirements visible and documented.
